Last Night: Critique Night

We kicked off last night's session by reviewing the PDI submission for NIPA round 1, members can find full results and judges comments here.

We then spent the rest of the evening in an informal critique of member's work, many thanks to Terry McCreesh and Gerald Gribbon for leading the proceedings with their insightful and constructive comments.

We also encouraged feedback from the audience and were delighted with the amount of participation from a largely novice audience, as well as keen insights from the more experienced members.

We also introduced this season's membership card, please see Helen to receive yours.  A special shout out goes to Gerald Gribbon for the design and Brian Maguire for arranging the printing.

Coming Up: 4th Oct - Beginners - Bring your best images for critique/feedback

Hi All,

This week we have "Beginners - Bring your best images for critique/feedback". This is a fantastic opportunity for everyone to bring along your images digitally or in print to be viewed and to receive feedback and ways of improving yours photos by simple techniques from our more advanced members.

Whilst we don't like to encourage people to skip club nights, we felt we had to let you know that Donal McCann will be giving a talk alongside another Fellow of the RPS at Christian Brothers. This will be around both successful Fellowship panels. The evening is open to anyone wishing to attend. The address for the club for those wishing to pop along is 283-289 Antrim Road, Belfast, BT15 2GZ

I look forward to seeing you all on Thursday. As before, could I please ask for everyone's help in getting the room set up at the start of the evening and again at end. It is much appreciated.

Thanks,

Barry
Chairman

Coming Up: 20th Sep - Photoshop/Lightroom

Coming up this week is a hands on demonstration on Photoshop and Lightroom, discussing basic skills and giving advice on improving your photos.

We will be covering the basics - exposure, levels, curves, saturation, sharpening, resizing and much more. Images that will be used on the evening will be supplied to members during the week. If youwant to follow step-by-step during the demonstration don't forget to bring your laptop along. We will also touch on the importance of screen calibration and the use of the Club's very own ColorMunki!

By the end of the evening you should be able to go off and practice on your own photos for the following week, which is Round 1 (OPEN) of our NIPA competition!

We actively encourage all members, old and new, to enter into these rounds and receive feedback from our experienced judges. The judges will offer constructive advice in such a way that will only help to improve your photography time and time again. If you are not comfortable with submitting a print, then why not enter a DPI (Digital Projected Image)? Instructions will be given on how to do this on Thursday.

We look forward to see everyone on Thursday!

13th Sep - Basics & Distinctions

Last night was the first proper session of the this season and we kicked things off with a packed session.

Basics

Karen McCrea gave a great presentation on the basics of photography.  For those that are still struggling with the juggling act you might find this cheatsheet useful, it's a handy resource for your camera bag and was found here.

Distinctions

Donal McCann  FRPS then gave a fascinating talk on distinction panels, specifically RPS and IPF distinctions.  We were treated to a selection of club members who displayed and discussed their distinction panels;

  • L Panels: Helen Weir   LRPS & Melissa Gordon  LIPF
  • A Panel: Brian Bennett  ARPS

Housekeeping

The Committee would like to extend its thanks to everyone that helped to setup and clear away the room.  As you can see, with such a large turnout that help is invaluable in ensuring that we kick off and finish in good time.  There'll be plenty to do throughout the year and we'd ask that people pitch in as and when they can.  Thank you.

Ciaran Whyte FIPF & Lorraine Gilligan FIPF - Print Presentation at BPIC 10th May 2012

BPIC is proud to announce that on Thursday 10th May, Ireland's newest FIPF recipient, Lorraine Gilligan FIPF and her husband Ciaran Whyte FIPF EFIAP will attend BPIC and display a selection of their Prints. Both are members of Celbridge Camera Club, Dublin, which came 3rd in the FIAP Clubs World Cup last Year.

Lorraine gained her FIPF in November 2011 with a stunning panel of 20 Prints, which will be on display at the Club, and hopefully we will hear about the inspiration, the workflow and the effort required to produce such a quality Fellowship panel.

Ciaran gained the LIPF, AIPF and FIPF in consecutive Seasons. His work displays the beauty of the female form, and his Panel for the FIPF consisted of 20 art nude prints. Since gaining the FIPF, Ciaran has not rested on his laurels, but has strived for International Success in FIAP Photographic Salons all over the World. The number of medals, ribbons, and best author awards he has received in such Salons over a relatively short period of time, is testament to his standing as one of Ireland's top photographers.

BPIC is delighted to welcome both of the Fellows to its Club on Thursday 10th May 2012. Visitors welcome from other Clubs. Admission is Free.

In the meantime, here is a selection of work from both Lorraine Gilligan FIPF and Ciaran Whyte FIPF:
